The Baer Artists Residency is located 40 miles from the Arctic Circle. During the summer Iceland experiences 24 hours of day-light. At the Summer Solstice the sun barely dips along the horizon before it begins to rise again. Inspired by Iceland’s sod houses, Solstice Iceland aligns the viewer with the sun as it touches down on the horizon at 1:30 AM during the Summer Solstice. An aluminum leafed disk both catches the sun light and marks the memory of the sunset.
