Mapping Relationships to the Charles River
…The Charles became a completely different place for me. Despite its thick brown water and ridged features, I now find it to be a place that holds much more than it reflects back. -Quote from student Colin Coughlin’s essay on his relationship to the Charles River
The exhibition WaterWays focused on the connection between students of Nobles & Greenough and the Charles River, which flows along the school’s campus. The students used Google Earth to pinpoint where they live in relation to the River and mounted the map on a house shaped panel. On the reverse side of the panel they wrote a specific memory of the river. Students collected water and rocks from the River, which were mounted on Plexiglas shelves. Students also took photographic portraits of themselves with the Charles River. Over 50 students participated from two Photography classes and an English class.
